The "Don't Be a Chicken" blood drive will get underway Friday, July 31 from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the United Blood Services Center, 1444 Grand Ave., according to Staci Biernbaum, senior donor recruitment representative.

You may make an appointment to give blood at www.UnitedBloodServices.org or by calling (406) 248-9168. With each donation, donors receive a free total cholesterol test and earn points in United Blood Services’ "Hero in Me" rewards program that can be used for free movie tickets, gift cards and t-shirts, Biernbaum said.

Volunteer blood donors must be at least 16 years of age, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and be in good health. Additional height and weight requirements apply to donors 22 and younger. Donors who are 17 must have signed permission from a parent or guardian.

United Blood Services serves patients in 47 hospitals in Montana and Wyoming. At least 500 Donations each week are needed to keep the community’s blood supply at a safe level.
