Super Smash Bros Gets a Few Skyward Surprises
Those hoping for Link to have some up-to-date changes added to his repertoire of weapons in the upcoming Super Smash Bros. are in for some luck. Also, we have gotten confirmation of a Kid Icarus stage for you to get your divine smash on.
The official. Smash Bros. site, as well as an accompanying post by Masahiro Sakurai, the director of the upcoming Super Smash Bros. title, confirm that Link will be able to use the flying Beetle weapon from The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. The Beetle will be able to pick up enemies and drop them off at a distance (possibly items as well), most likely acting as a form of knock-back. In the background of Link’s picture is a Skyloft stage based on Skyward Sword. Speaking of Beetles, keep an eye out for Beedle’s shop floating around.
Sakurai also posted on the MiiVerse about a new Kid Icarus Stage, and provided a picture featuring some of its details. In the background of the Icarus level, you can see a coliseum. A Goddess of Light statue resides in the foreground, displaying ethereal wings that look like they are a living part of the statue itself. Being the director of Kid Icarus: Uprising, it’s no surprise that Sakurai knows what he’s doing when it comes to Icarus-themed levels. The lifelike movement of the wings hints that there are most likely moving components to parts of the stage. The multi-storied temple on which the statue resides over hints that they act as platforms.
While a release date still hasn’t been announced, we expect to see the newest Super Smash Bros. title reach the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS later this year.
