Montana is a great place to get engaged.

One of Montana's most spectacular settings has landed on a list of the 10 best places to propose in the United States.  If you are married, you'll never forget the time and place when you either asked the question or responded to the proposal.

Here's my engagement story.

This was in 2009. My then-girlfriend and I had been living together for four years and she knew the question was coming, so it wasn't much of a surprise. I dug the ring out of my luggage while she was getting ready and asked her to marry me in our hotel room in Las Vegas.

Then we headed out to the Strip to celebrate. One year later, we returned to Sin City to get married, with around 50 of our friends from Montana and around the country flying in for the wedding. It was awesome.

Propose at the Wild Goose Island Overlook in Glacier National Park.

USA Today compiled a list of the 10 Best Places to Propose and Montana landed at #9 on their ranking. Regarding the overlook in Glacier National Park, the publication noted,

From this vantage point, you and your loved one can enjoy stunning panoramic views of the majestic mountains that soar above the edges of Saint Mary Lake, with Wild Goose Island at the center of it all.

They added a quip about timing your Glacier National Park proposal at sunset, to elevate the moment. Other spots on their top ten list included Cannon Beach, the Grand Canyon, and getting engaged from a helicopter above the Las Vegas Strip (dang it, I should've rented a chopper ride when I popped the question!). Their number-one spot for a special proposal is the Mendocino Coast Botanical Garden in Fort Bragg, CA.
