Late last year, NBC announced it would be remaking 'The Sound of Music' for the 2013 holiday season, and that country superstar Carrie Underwood had been cast as singing nun Maria. And now we know who'll be playing her Capt. von Trapp: 'True Blood' star Stephen Moyer.

Moyer will spend at least part of his hiatus from the HBO series playing the famous single dad in the three-hour production, which is set to air live on Dec. 5. It'll be the first television production of 'The Sound of Music' -- the Rodgers & Hammerstein classic was originally a 1959 Broadway musical, and the film version in 1965 (which starred Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer) wound up winning the Academy Award for Best Picture.

The good news is it won't be Moyer's first foray into performing live. The actor, a graduate of the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and a veteran of the Royal Shakespeare Company, most recently starred as Billy Flynn in last month's Hollywood Bowl production of 'Chicago.' Check out a bit of that below.
