According to multiple news reports the Obama administration has announced that they have extended the deadline for enrollment into insurance provided by the federal insurance marketplace. The deadline for enrollment completion has now been extended to mid-April.

The Obama administration says that all of those who have begun to apply for coverage on HealthCarge.gov, but who do not finish by the March 31st deadline, will now have until about "mid-April" to ask for an extension.

Health and Human Services Department spokeswoman Joanne Petters told Fox News:

"We are experiencing a surge in demand and are making sure that we will be ready to help consumers who may be in line by the deadline to complete enrollment -- either online or over the phone."

Under the new rules people will be allowed to check a blue box on Healthcare.gov to indicate that they tried to enroll tried to enroll before the deadline. This statement however will rely solely on the honor system. The government isn't going to commit the time and resources to verifying that people had attempted to register before the March 31st deadline.
