Montana Fire Watch-August 26
This past Friday at about 3:30 p.m. a grass fire was reported in Shepherd. It was reported to have been burning behind a structure on Pleasant Hollow Trail. Apparently during the grass fire a barn was burned but not totally destroyed. Fire officials knocked down the blaze during the first hour of the report. There was a report of one person being taken to he hospital, suffering from smoke inhalation.
The Rock Creek Fire in Red Lodge is now into its second week. This fire is the closest wild fire we have had close to Billings. By the end of this past weekend the Rock Creek Fire had burned a little less than 1,000 acres and is at 25% containment. At this time there are about 550 structures threatened by the blaze.
A public meeting has been set up by officials for tonight at 6 p.m. at the county fairgrounds in Red Lodge. Officials are setting the meeting up to inform residents that may be impacted by the fire.
With the use of 37 engines, 9 helicopters and 6 dozers the Lolo Creek Complex Fires are now contained to 40% and covers about 10,000 acres.
