Check out this interactive map that puts into perspective how people in America have moved from state to state over the past 112 years.

Pretty interesting to see how New Yorkers moved to Florida about 40 years ago, and how people from Iowa, North Dakota and even Minnesota have come to Montana around the 1950’s.

Interesting facts about Montana in particular, according to this map

  • Around the 1900’s 28% of residents were from outside the U.S. Another big chunk of Montana’s population came from New York.
  • In the 1950’s, the North-easterners practically fled (for whatever reason) and the South began to invade.
  • By 2012, the Midwesterners (primarily North Dakota, again, for whatever reason) began taking more of a claim. Washington and California people migrated in heavily around that time too.

Drilling down into each states growth is super intriguing and shows a perspective over time of our ancestors travels. Worth a look.
