Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has announced Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor, a third-person action game. It's built around the theme of revenge, with a story set in Middle-earth between the events of 'The Hobbit' and 'The Lord of the Rings.'

Shadow of Mordor is currently in development for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC. We'll take control of a ranger named Talion, who witnesses his family get slaughtered right in front of him before he's killed. Thanks to a Spirit of vengeance, he's resurrected with the powers of a Wraith and heads back into Mordor for revenge.

Shadow of Mordor will employ something called the Nemesis System, which make it so that "enemy relationships and characteristics are shaped by player actions and decisions to create personal archenemies that remember and adapt to the player and are distinct to every gameplay session."

The game is being worked on by Monolith Productions in collaboration with Middle-earth Enterprises, Peter Jackson and the folks at Weta Workshop. If all goes well, we could have a pretty magnificent game set in Middle-Earth.
