Microsoft Studios has announced that it's just acquired the rights to the Gears of War franchise from Epic Games. Get ready to see a lot more COGs in your Xbox life.

The announcement was made on Xbox Wire, which also featured a brief interview with Phil Spencer, Head of Microsoft Studios, Hanno Lemke, General Manager of Black Tusk Studios at Microsoft Studios and Rod Fergusson, the producer for the Gears of War series.

Microsoft purchased the franchise because of their commitment to Xbox fans. "This franchise, and these fans, are part of the soul of Xbox," Spencer said. "By acquiring this franchise, Microsoft Studios will continue to offer them more of their favorite games and entertainment experiences from the Gears of War universe."

Lemke ensured that Epic Games will collaborate with them on future Gears of War titles in order to keep the quality of the series "consistent with the high quality fans have come to expect from the franchise."
