Ah, the power of radio.

A 95-year-old man, identified as Bill Palmer, called into a BBC Radio Solent show last week to say he was lonely after his wife had to go into a nursing home.

Chris Hitchings, who produces Alex Dyke's show, told BuzzFeed, "He called up to say he was lonely and he missed [his wife]. I don't think he had anyone else to talk to."

Palmer reportedly called in during a segment on love in the later years of life.

Dyke invited Palmer into the studio where he sat in on a show, while listeners called in with nice words for him.

Palmer married his wife, whom he'd known for 30 years, last year. She recently fell and he could no longer take care of her himself, so she had to go into a home where he visits her every day.

He told Dyke, "Every day is hell. I feel so alone."

Hopefully, for one brief moment he got to feel just how many people care.
