It’s been three years since Katy Perry’s last album "Teenage Dream" was released in August of 2010. Life was a lot different for the over-the-top cotton candy pop star back then. She was thick in the pre-wedding "so-in-love" phase with fiancé Russell Brand and traveling on her fun, cartoon-esque "California Dreams" tour.

Katy’s upcoming album "Prism", hitting shelves on October 22nd, is going to show a very different side of Katy. In a promo video for her first single "#Roar" Katy burns her signature blue wig, a metaphor for a change that is to come.
Katy and her devoted flock of followers have been relentless tweeting photos of Katy’s PRISM TRUCK, a gold-faced Mac truck with "Katy Perry. Prism. 10.22.13" embossed in gigantic black letters on the side. Loud, large and in your face tactics have always been Katy’s best strategy.

She opened up about "Prism" during our interview. Perry, 27, called the album the "essential oil of Katy", elaborating, "This record is totally different…. I guess it’s a 28-year-old version of me."

Katy’s new era is all about letting light into your life and promises her colorful personality is here to stay. She commented, “For a minute I thought I was going to do a dark record, but then I let the light in and that is what the prism does. It has a beam going into it and it shines out the rest of the colors on the other side. And that’s how I feel this record is. I let the light in, it served me well, and now I get to share all the light I have learned with all of my fans through the songs.”

Katy hasn’t been shy about discussing the tough times she faced while getting divorced from Russell Brand. Earlier this year she revealed that Russell said he wanted a divorce via a text message. "In some ways I’ve always been an open book. I give my best answers through my music,” she continued, "I'm not going to stay in my room and order room service. I'm going to live my life."

Over the weekend her first single “Roar” leaked while she was shooting the “lyrics video” in the Hamptons. She shared, "Obviously I can’t wait to get to the music to people’s ears…. [but] it’s almost like seeing a movie out of sequence, you kinda lose the movie magic."

She exchanged tweets with Lady Gaga whose song leaked as well. Gaga tweeted, “Wanna grab some shovels and f*ck up some hackers? @katyperry excited to hear your ROAR, sorry to hear about your truck!”

Katy tweeted back, "@ladygaga what a WILD weekend so far... claws out, paws up! Looking forward to puttin my hands up & making them touch too!”

The single is now officially available on iTunes for purchase!

Katy will be performing at the 2013 iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas on September 20th.

Rock on Katy Perry, you’re stronger and more talented than ever! We love #ROAR!
