As if the upcoming 'Justified' season 5 hadn't gotten enough of the crow metaphor with its most recent teasers and the upcoming introduction of Dewey Crowe's kin, the latest teaser for Raylan's return features a murder of crows! And lest we forget, the first synopsis has arrived for the premiere, "A Murder of Crowes"!

All kidding aside, the crow-centric fifth season premiere of 'Justified' will emerge from the holster on January 7, though Harlan County looks to be a big player while Raylan heads back to Florida and even Boyd travels to Detroit to seek out the mob. So says the first official episode synopsis of the season:

Episode 5.01 – A Murder of Crowes

(Airs January 7, 10:00 pm e/p)

In the swamplands of Florida, Raylan tangles with a deadly branch of the Crowe Family Tree, while Boyd goes into the dark heart of the collapsing Detroit Mob. Written by Graham Yost & Fred Golan; directed by Michael Dinner.

Michael Rapaport has been revealed to portray the Florida-based Crowe clan patriarch Dale Jr., while ‘Friday Night Lights‘ vet Alicia Witt will play a paralegal and public face of the Crowe crime family. Elsewhere, ‘X-Men: First Class‘ star Edi Gathegi will take the role of Haitian criminal and Crowe employee Jean Baptiste, a former member of the Haitian secret police.

Elsewhere, we know of ‘Justified’ season 5 that the action will pick up with Boyd also desperate to get Ava out of prison, putting revenge on Lee Paxton (‘LOST‘’s Sam Anderson), Sheriff Mooney and Johnny Crowder (David Meunier) on the back burner. Raylan will have both his potential promotion and the long-awaited birth of his daughter to worry about, while showrunner Graham Yost previously expressed a desire to craft a new means of driving the character action besides the big bad and mystery approaches already used in recent seasons.

Catch a thematic sneak peek of "A Murder of Crowes" in the latest teaser above, and tell us in the comments what you want to see from the 'Justified' season 5 premiere in early 2014!
