Janice Dickinson appears to be resuming life as normal after receiving a cancer diagnosis she told The Daily Mail has felt like a "nigtmarish dream."

According to Peoplesupermodel-turned-reality TV personality Dickinson and her fiancé, Robert "Rocky" Gerner, were out shopping for plants Monday (March 28) in the Los Angeles sunshine. Earlier the same day, The Mail published an interview with Dickinson in which she explained that she'd been diagnosed with ductal carcinoma two weeks earlier after discovering a pea-sized lump in her breast and undergoing a subsequent mammogram and biopsy.

"It's still quite shocking," she said. "Today I got very scared...I just get very scared and it hit me. But I am not gonna let that define me, the fear. I'm going to get through this, I'll be just fine kiddo."

Dickinson said she's been withdrawn since learning of her condition, but that the support of her husband-to-be and two grown children has been a tremendous help in coping. She was shopping with her 22-year-old daughter, Savannah, when she got the call that confirmed her cancer.

"I was really glad Savi was with me at that moment because it was kind of an out of body experience," she said. "'At that moment I knew I had to be brave and I had to be strong...I had to find the courage I possess as a woman, that we all have as women and then I had to put my chin up and my shoulders back and take it moment by moment."

Gerner, a psychiatrist, has said Dickinson's carcinoma is "quite responsive to treatment" and that he's optimistic about her prognosis because the tumor was caught so early. He added that doctors have ruled out a mastectomy.
