Yes you can purchase fireworks in the city limits of Billings but you cannot light them off inside the city limits of Billings. You can light them off outside of Billings, the outskirts of Yellowstone County. If you are going camping please know the stipulations and rules.
From the Custer and Gallatin National Forests:
Fourth of July festivities are in full swing and Firefighters seek the public’s help to be “Fire Safe,” this holiday and throughout the summer. Fireworks and other exploding targets are prohibited on all federal lands including the Custer and the Gallatin National Forests regardless of weather conditions or holidays.
In 2012 there was a ban on lighting fireworks off anywhere in the area due to the high fire danger. Although fireworks were banned last year, fireworks stands were still able to sell product. But after the ban was announced, consumers for the most part chose not to purchase them.
This year there seems to be an excited resurgence from firework stand owners and residents buying up fireworks since at this time there is no ban.
Officer Tom Keightly from the Billings Police Department was on the Billings Morning News with his Billings Beat segment and we discussed fireworks at great length:
Enjoy the 4th of July but we stress safety!
