Drake had been promising an explosive performance at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, and Drizzy definitely delivered!

After an enthusiastic introduction by T-Boz and Chilli of TLC, Drake's performance started quietly with the mellow 'Hold On, We're Going Home.' The camera captured his face in profile against a blue-sky background, resembling the just-released cover artwork for upcoming album 'Nothing Was the Same.'

After a couple of verses, the song stopped, and Drizzy shifted gears. He jogged through the crowd, slapping hands as he went, jumped on a small stage and started into 'Started From the Bottom.' He rapped while energetically bouncing, hands the air and encouraging the Barclays Center crowd to join him.

The pyrotechnics then heated up in earnest, with Drake running all over the stage. The camera caught Will and Jaden Smith loving it, but Rihanna? Her reaction was strangely uninterested.

Both 'Hold On, We're Going Home' and 'Started From the Bottom' appear on Drake's 'Nothing Was the Same,' out Sept. 24.
