Colette Carr is pushing the restart button.

For those who haven't already been formally introduced, the LA-based singer-songwriter first made a name for herself when she was discovered at a concert by The Game through an impromptu freestyle on stage, which eventually led to a record deal from Nick Cannon (!) and her cocky viral 2009 smash with The Cataracs, "Back It Up."

Years later, Carr formally broke out with her Cherrytree Records debut Skitszo in 2013, a collection of major collaborations with the industry's top pop producers including MNEK ("The Finest Things"), Fernando Garibay ("Never Gonna Happen"), RedOne ("Who Do You Think You Are") and Frankmusik ("(We Do It) Primo"), a creative partnership that would ultimately extend through to this new chapter of her music career.

Inspired by Morrissey and The Smiths, Method Man and Debbie Harry, Colette is beginning anew two years later with a sonic transition as bold as her blue 'do on the upcoming 4-track EP Static. Start., due out later this summer.

"For the new EP, I wanted to explore a sound I had previously created with my friend Frankmusik on a song called "Killswitch", she explained to PopCrush. "It's a more vulnerable, stripped down version of myself, and although it was uncomfortable getting there, musically it's where I feel most comfortable."

To kick off the forthcoming collection, Carr will release lead single "Static" on June 30, an ethereal slice of tripping beats and unexpectedly featherlight vocals that marks a decided stylistic shift for the singer.

"I talk a lot about my love life in Static. Start. For me, this EP was a release and an escape. "Static," in particular is about turning off the world — the stress, the notifications, emails, opinions — and letting myself drift away to a place far away where I am naked (metaphorically...and maybe literally). Vulnerability and storytelling were the driving force behind all of the new music. I feel so free creatively. It's such a fun and scary time."

Ahead of the EP's release, PopCrush is bringing you the first look at Colette Carr's EP cover art up top, as well as a 30-second snippet of one of the forthcoming tracks from the set, "3%," which you can hear down below.
