Adele's approach to promo is simple: Release a brand new song in the dead of night, complete with a music video and powerhouse vocals, and the world will take notice. Of course, it helps that Adele's first single in three years "Hello" is a walloping punch of emotion, and a song that deserves the accolades it garnered within its initial hour of its release.

So it should come as no surprise to the general public that “Hello” is making waves, chart-wise, and destroying records in a way you'd expect from an artist as massively successful and revered as Adele. According to Official Charts, “Hello” earned a combined total of 333,000 sales during its first week, making it the UK’s biggest No. 1 single in three years, since X Factor nobody James Arthur’s single "Impossible" somehow garnered 490,000 sales back in December 2012.

Adele also decimated the previous streaming record, with 7.32 million plays — besting previous record-holder Justin Bieber, whose “What Do You Mean?” earned 3.87 million streams in a week.

The chief executive of Official Charts Company, Martin Talbot, said, "The success of 'Hello' this week underlines what an extraordinary artist Adele is — a once in a generation artist, who appeals to kids, teenagers, mums, dads, aunts, uncles, grandmas and grandads. To make such an impact, across both streams and sales, is the sign of a truly universally popular artist."

Have you been rendered a weeping mess by Adele's "Hello" yet? If not, what are you waiting for? Watch the video and listen to the song immediately.
